Casablanca school is a public institution for early childhood and primary education. It is located in the district of Casablanca, one of the six districts of the city of Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona. It receives students from the neighborhood itself, although the educational area also takes a part of the district of Camps Blancs and that of Vinyets students. Given the socioeconomic situation of the territory ours is a school regarded as a one of Maximum Difficulty. The majority of our kids (75%) hold an Spanish origin, while the remaining 25% shares different nationalities, being South America, the Maghreb, Asia and Europe the most significant provenant areas. The predominant socioeconomic level of the Casablanca school’s families is medium / low. The school’s staff consists of 32 teachers, a Technique of Early Childhood Education (TEI) and two Auxiliaries of Special Education Needs (AEE). The Casablanca opens its doors every day to our 426 students, aged between 3 and 12 years old. Casablanca school wants its pupils to become ready for nowadays’ challenges and wish them to perform every moment in a positive, effective and equitable way, in a society of men and women working together to achieve elevated goals. Since results obtained in successive diagnostic evaluations latest years were not the desired ones, accurate analysis of them, altogether, have demanded of us a significant change about educational strategies: our students need to recover the motivation for learning, while teachers themselves should be given back their engagement for teaching. It appears to be vital, then, provide boys and girls of a comprehensive training (from all four physical, social, emotional and cognitive angles) at the same time that they emerge as the absolute protagonists of the educational process. It is for us a main aim to educate our kids to eventually turn them into active members of society, and actual regeneration of our methodologies is this very moment already running:collaborative small group work on chief areas of the curriculum, manipulative learning of the mathematics (ABN approach), discussing groupal reading and reinforcement of the English command, as exemples. Of course, ICT tools are day by day more and more present in our classrooms and, internationalization, in our future projections. We truly believe that European partnership work through the present KA2 represents, for us, an unique opportunity to learn, from others, about how to achieve the goals described above. This is one of the capital reasons to be here. We hope to come to be, in our turn, a helpful benefit for you, partners, all. |
