Primary School of Makedonitissa A' is situated in the west side of the capital of Nicosia, Cyprus. About 300 children attend the particular school and come from a middle and high socio-economic background. A number of children come from refugee families, since the Turkish invasion in the country in 1974. 25 highly qualified, dynamic and enthusiastic teachers lead children to the pathway of knowledge.
Our school fosters a strong sense of community and provides a supportive, nurturing and warm environment. Through innovative teaching methodologies and practices – it aims to promote citizenship, respect of self and others, solidarity, sustainable living and respect of the environment. It encourages creativity and critical thinking in children through motivating learning processes. The children in our school are encouraged to make the most of every opportunity opened to them and achieving their full potential.
We aim to create a stimulating, positive and caring learning environment based on friendly communication, close partnerships, mutual trust and respect. In addition, our school aims to establish a life-long love of learning so that our children are inspired to strive for excellence and in doing so they become interesting, engaged and fulfilled. It fosters the qualities of respect, discipline and a sense of responsibility, so that we are compassionate, collaborative, and committed to making a difference.
Our school is always open in new projects and new ideas that come from different schools across Europe. The key people in charge of running the project in the school will be the two assistant headteachers who are new personnel at school and it is sure that they will be at this school for the next 3 years at least. In addition a group of dynamic teachers will create with the assistant headteachers the Erasmus team of the school, who will be responsible for the implementation of the project. Our school has been involved in a lot of local, regional, national and international projects. We have been involved in many eTwinning projects before and last year we were awarded with the eTwinning National and European Quality label for one of them.
