The Istituto Comprensivo Carlo V is located in Carlentini (Italy). The school consists of five buildings which accommodate three degrees of school: Preschool, Primary and Lower Secondary. In our school there are 889 pupils (aged 3 to 14), 102 teachers and 22 administrative and technical auxiliary employees. We have upgraded educational facilities, properly equipped laboratories, a
library and sports facilities. Some students experience a deep unease that has an effect on their school performances and the number of pupils with special educational needs is increasing. These are some of the reasons why we need to review our school curriculum in a modern European way, training our teachers about innovative practices and modern engaging teaching methods, which can
motivate pupils to study and prevent early school leaving. The participation in a wider project will provide the students with great opportunities for cooperative learning and creativity, while stimulating multiple intelligences and promoting teamwork, problem solving and other soft skills. Our aim is the development of each student to its full potential, focusing on the key competences which promote social inclusion and lifelong learning. We think that through the transmission of the basic values of coexistence, empathy and respect, through the exchange of good practices and the sharing of experiences, our schools can grow developing those competences that contribute to the construction of a ‘good European citizen’, preventing prejudice and intolerance. This project will benefit our school increasing the teachers’ ability to use ICT for formative learning assessments, individualized instruction, accessing online resources, and to foster the students’ interaction and collaboration. Such a training in ICT should positively impact the teachers’ general attitudes towards ICT in the classroom, but it should also provide specific guidance on ICT teaching and learning within each discipline. After our previous experience in an Erasmus+ KA1 project, now we feel the need of further formative actions to implement the process of internationalization and modernization of the curriculum. The school’s objectives correspond with the project aims, especially to innovate the daily teaching and enrich the pedagogical practice, using new methodologies in our daily lessons.
